Spherical manipulation

The advanced coaster creator is a game feature added in v80.

Purpose

The advanced coaster creator is used to create coasters at a much higher level of detail than the basic editor provides.

Usage

To open the advanced coaster creator, click "Advanced editor" while editing a custom-track ride.

The default mode, "Spherical manipulation," uses three rings and a white arrow to manipulate the track piece. The green ring affects the X-axis (horizontal). The red ring affects the Y-axis (vertical). The blue ring affects the roll (bank). The white arrow affects the length of the track piece.

The second mode, "Move spline node," uses six arrows to manipulate the spline node. These arrows can be used to move the spline node along the X, Y, and Z axes (up, down, left, right, forward, or backward).

The third mode, "Rotate spline node," uses rings to manipulate the spline node. If auto-smooth is disabled, there are three rings (similar to spherical manipulation). If auto-smooth is enabled, there is only a blue ring, which affects roll.

Interface Explained

  • Build: Adds piece
  • Remove: Removes highlighted piece
  • Arrows: Selects previous or next track piece
  • Track feature: Track type (normal, chainlift, station, brakes, booster, rapids, waterfall, Change Car direction and Change Train speed)
  • Snap node to grid: Snaps node to nearest simple spline editor grid point.
  • Reset node: Reset node to default position and orientation.
  • Pivot offset: Offsets coordinate system.

Spherical manipulation
"Move the spline node being built in a spherical coodinate system."

  • Auto-smooth yaw & pitch: Toggle automatic smoothing of yaw and pitch.
  • Roll: Banking (in degrees)
  • Snap length: Toggle snapping when adjusting length (measured in studs)
  • Snap rotate: Toggle snapping when adjusting rotation (measured in degrees)

Move spline node
"Move the spline node being built."

  • Auto-smooth yaw & pitch: Toggle automatic smoothing of yaw and pitch.
  • Snap: Toggle snapping
  • ΔPos: Adjust node position values (Rotation, height, and length)
  • Translation Space (TS): Changes the translation coordinate space of the node
    • World: Arrows will stay in a fixed orientation
    • Local: Arrows will adjust to node upon release
    • Previous node: Arrows will stay in a fixed orientation
    • Next node: Unknown

Rotate spline node

  • Auto-smooth yaw & pitch: Toggle automatic smoothing of yaw and pitch.
  • Snap: Toggle snapping
  • Yaw/Pitch/Roll: Rotational values (crook, bow, bank)

Tips

  • Use "Snap node to grid" if you are trying to transition into the basic editor.
  • It's easier to make chicanes with auto-smooth disabled.
  • When track you are building nears incomplete track you have already built, a white button appears near the incomplete track. Pressing this button joins the two track sections.
